Welcome to May everyone! April was my birthday month, and it’s always something I reflect on. I deeply believe in having a purpose, and my birthday always has me reflect on things I’ve learned, things I’ve done, and things I want to do.
One of those things is always, always getting books out. Getting stories out. Writing worlds is something I love to do, and this new world is exciting for me. I’m still in the middle writing the book, but I love the character and wanted to share Silas Brennan with my readers with a short story. Share him with you all before revealing him to the rest of the world.
This story started with me wondering about emotions. How powerful they can be. How high the greatest joys can take us, and the dark depths the saddest sorrows can drag us down in. And, of course, the sudden explosion of furious rage, the quick choices we might make in anger and the consequences we have to live with, after.
What if these emotions powered magic? What if they were the source of power for someone who could use magic? Who would that person be in our world, what might they do, and how might they end up after the doing?
